We bet the bigwigs at the Discovery Channel were visiting the UAE when they came up with the Turbo Month. After all, where else in the world are there fabulous cars of all makes and models – pimped to the extreme to look extra special (or in some cases, completely ridiculous).

Throughout the month of April, Discovery Channel, which is available on OSN, is dedicating hours of its grid to some of the best motoring TV shows around – from entertaining motoring magazines to motorcycle travel and car renovation shows. Great for any enthusiast who likes their engines fast, furious or even old skool.

Tonight, tune in to Wheeler Dealers 6, where presenters Mike Brewer and Edd China buy and restore iconic cars and then try to sell them for a profit.

In tonight's episode, Brewer attempts to buy a cheap Mini Cooper, and create a one-off, eye catching, customised special – but he's only got a maximum of £5,000 (Dh28,080) to spend. Will he be able to create a masterpiece that works?

Then there's Fifth Gear (pictured) – which we personally feel is just a rip-off of Top Gear – and in this week's episode (the show plays every Friday) Tiff and Jason head to the track in the brand new BMW Z4 and Porsche Boxster. Meanwhile, British comedian and motorbike fanatic, Ross Noble, meets up with one of his heroes, Dougie Lampkin, for a day of trial bike tuition.

One of our personal favourites comes in the form of Mythbusters, which is scheduled to premiere on April 21.

In this special, entitled Mythbusters Demolition Derby Special, the team put four fables of automotive mayhem to the test. Hosts Adam and Jamie want to know if a key scene from the iconic movie Speed is fact or fake film physics, while the rest of the team investigate whether a fruit stand drive through or a caravan collision would leave you unharmed and able to continue your high speed pursuit.

There's still loads of other programmes to check out, including Twist the Throttle, Street Customs Berlin and American Chopper. Plenty to keep you busy when the football's not on.
