Bollywood comedian Rajpal Yadav in custody

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, known for his comic timing in Hindi films has been taken into 10 days of judicial custody after he and his wife failed to repay Rs5 crore (Dh2.9m) loan.

An Indian court ordered Rajpal and wife to be present till the rising of the court.

The couple's lawyers have also been issued a contempt of court notice.

It is alleged that Rajpal and his wife Radha had taken Rs 5 crore loan from a Delhi-based businessman for making a film titled ‘Ata Pata Laapata’ (2010).

Even after being given several opportunities, the actor was unable to repay the loan. Finally, the lender decided to go to court.

Yadav had promised the businessman rights to the movie and its music. He claims that the actor however went ahead and released the music without the consent of the lender.

Rajpal Yadav has acted in movies such as ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, ‘Hungama’ , ‘Krrish3’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ to name a few.
