Bollywood's Manish Malhotra jets into Dubai

Designer to the stars Manish Malhotra jetted into Dubai yesterday five days ahead of Dubai Fashion Week, which kicks off on October 24.

Malhotra, who has been attributed for turbo-charging the careers of celebrities such as Urmila Matondkar, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor with his kitsch Bollywood sense of style, tweeted his arrival into Dubai on the microblogging site, Twitter, saying: “Just got into Dubai”.

He is also here for a corporate event for Euram Bank Asia, a provider of investment banking and private banking services in the region.

Neither Malhotra nor his fashion is new to Dubai. He once retailed out of popular Indian couture store, Sheetal, followed by his flagship designer store under his own name. This later morphed into Studio 8, where Malhotra’s Bollywood fashion is all the rage.

At the upcoming DFW, Malhotra will be showcasing his new Spring/Summer 2011 collection, which turned quite a few heads at the recently concluded HDIL India Couture Week in Mumbai. While the evening’s showstopper, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan probably was the highlight of the show, no one could still take away from Malhotra’s Mughal-era designs, which saw many of the waif models buckling under the weight of all those yards of cloth and embroidery.

While Malhotra opened HDIL with all the fanfare and drama, his Dubai show is scheduled for October 28 at Asateer, Atlantis The Palm and will be grand finale of the five-day event, which will feature up to 40 designers and their fashion.

And if you are in two minds whether to book a front row seat of give his show a miss, then here’s what the Twitterati celebs had to say about Malhotra’s show in Mumbai, with Abhishek Bachchan leading the way saying on the said night, tweeting: “Congratulations Manish for a wonderful show. The Mrs. looked gorgeous!!!”

Actress Sonam Kapoor added: “Just got done with @ManishMalhotra1’s show. It was dramatic, glamorous and stunning!”
