British singer Alexandra Burke has clinched her third UK number one hit single with "Start Without You", knocking another former "X Factor" contestant off the top spot.

The 22-year-old, who won the ITV talent search show in 2008, went straight to the top of the chart in the song's debut week, according to the Official Charts Company.

Last week's number one, "Please Don't Let Me Go" by singer-songwriter Olly Murs, who was runner-up on the show in 2009, slipped to fourth place.

Both artists are signed to music executive and "X Factor" presenter Simon Cowell's Syco record label.

London R&B singer Taio Cruz held on to the third spot with "Dynamite", while Irish rock band The Script entered the chart at number five with "For the First Time".

On the album chart, American singer Brandon Flowers knocked Katy Perry off the top spot with his debut solo release "Flamingo". Flowers is lead singer of rock band The Killers.

London-based three-piece The XX climbed to third from 16th last week with their self-titled debut album after winning the Mercury Prize this week.
