Beefcake actor Salman Khan has confirmed that he will host next season’s "Bigg Boss", the Indian version of the hit Endemol reality show Big Brother.

A report in The Times of India newspaper quoting the Indian actor said the decision has been finalised.

“For me, television is a way of returning the love and affection that I have got from the audience for the past 22 years. Now they get to see me in the comfort of their homes and that too for free,” the paper quoted Khan as saying.

The show goes head to head with "Kaun Banega Crorepati", the Indian version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire", which is now being hosted by superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who hosted last season’s "Bigg Boss".

“This is the standard procedure that channels follow,” he said. “I don’t really care about TRPs. I just like connecting with my audience, which is why I’m doing more of television,” Bollywood’s favourite bad boy added, shrugging off any comparisons. TRPs or Television Ratings Points indicate the popularity of a channel or programme.

Actors Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar have also been previously been approached to host "Bigg Boss", but channel sources quoted by the paper said negotiations fell through in both cases.

Khan, however, promises to bring his own touch to the show. Unlike Bachchan, who played the friend, philosopher and guide to inmates of the house, Khan will be his brutally honest and spontaneous best on the show. “He had his style and I have mine,” Khan said. “Besides, Mr Bachchan is going to host another show in a different format. All these comparisons are nowhere in my mind.”

Details on Khan’s salary have yet to emerge.
