Four years after bursting on the (Bollywood) scene with a roaring act in adult-comedy ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’, actor Kartik Aryan is raring to go again, and this time with its sequel. Titled ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’, this one too explores how a bunch of lads find their life distorted by their women.
While the trailers showcase innumerable misogynist jokes, Kartik claims it is not an adult comedy, and that the jokes are “situational” and has a high “relatability” factor.
“It’s a funny take on relationships.”
He defends the movie’s slant towards the men, and claims it’s not one-sided, and that women actually loved ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ for the same flavour.
Kartik states that his infamous seven-minute monologue in the first movie even found applause from the female audience. “I actually thought that the girls were going to hate me for this, but ever since that movie, wherever I have gone I’ve had girls come up to me, requesting me to repeat the monologue.”
He’s also got a similar act in the new movie, and Kartik’s confident that it will be a rage too.
The 25-year-old claims that at the time of filming the first instalment, there was no plan for a sequel. “We didn’t expect the movie to make the kind of noise it did, and that’s what encouraged us to take it forward. Once I heard the script of the sequel, I was in splits, and that’s when I knew we had cracked it.”
“I think everyone’s going to relate to it, again. It’s the same concept, but with different characters.”
Just like the first part, the actor is confident that the sequel will also gain huge following among the younger generation.
With just four movies - ‘Akaash Vani’, ‘Kaanchi: The Unbreakable’ and the ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ series – Kartik claims to enjoy a massive following on twitter, and enjoys the interaction with his fans.
“It’s a great place, and a lot happens there. In fact, I became an actor through social media”
Kartik, who hails from a family of doctors, had hoodwinked his folks into believing he was eager to pursue engineering when he wanted to be in the movies. He even shifted from Gwalior to Mumbai and juggled engineering textbooks with movie auditions.
It was a facebook advert for a new face, which eventually landed him the role in ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’.
“It is when I got the movie, I broke to the news to my folks. Initially they were shocked, but soon they came around. In fact, my mom and aunt came down to meet the director (Luv Ranjan), and it almost felt like a parent-teacher meeting.”
While the actresses Nushrat Bharucha, Sonalli Sehgall and Ishita Sharma, who were in the first film, are back, the movie will see two new actors, Omkar Kapoor and Sunny Singh. Directed by Luv Ranjan, ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’ releases in the UAE on October 15.
