“Nicole is just so heartbroken and completely devastated,” a source told the website, which added that the split may have been the result of the couple’s busy work schedules.

After meeting at the MTV European Music Awards in 2007, the two took their relationship public six months later at the Monaco Grand Prix.

They briefly split in January 2010, then reconciled, then split again in late 2011 before giving their relationship one last shot in early 2012.

The X Factor judge and the Formula 1 racing driver are believed to have ended their relationship as their busy work schedules meant they just didn't get to see each other.

The sad news comes just a matter of weeks after 28-year-old Lewis hinted that he was planning to propose to Nicole, 34.

In an interview late last year, Scherzinger gushed to Marie Claire UK about how her romance with Hamilton keeps her grounded.
