Want to spend night with Godzilla? In Japan, anything is possible

If you've ever wanted to sleep with a giant lizard - and let's face it, you only live once - one Japanese hotel has just the thing with its soon-to-be opened Godzilla Room.

Hotel Gracery in Tokyo's buzzing entertainment district of Shinjuku offers the chance to catch some shuteye under the watchful gaze of a man-size atomic mutant as he stomps on a miniature Japanese capital in the corner of your room.

For those extra-unsettling dreams, a gigantic Godzilla hand, complete with razor-like claws, looms over the twin beds, to ensure you get maximum value from the 39,800 yen ($335) a night room.

Those wanting a slightly less full-on experience can opt for a single Godzilla Viewing room, where a narrow window gives out onto a 12-metre (39-foot) lizard head that appears to have poked its way through an adjacent roof.

The hotel sits above a cinema complex run by Toho, the movie company behind the original film that spawned a huge monster franchise more than 60 years ago.

The 1954 'Gojira' - a Japanese portmanteau of 'gorilla' and 'kujira' (whale) - was a mega hit, drawing 9.6 million viewers in the days before television sets were commonplace in Japanese households.

Toho plans to release a new Godzilla film in 2016, after a Warner Bros' $160 million incarnation last year.
