Lankan minister to meet expats in Dubai

Sri Lanka’s Minister for Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Dilan Perera along with a 11-member entourage of bureau officials will be meeting with the expatriate community on Saturday at the Traders Hotel in Dubai.

The minister who visited Qatar earlier, is eager to meet with his compatriots and discuss their well-being.

There are an estimated 250,000 Sri Lankans employed in the UAE, a majority of them as domestic workers.

Remittances of overseas Sri Lankan workers is one of the island nation’s top foreign exchange revenue.

A communiqué sent out by the Sri Lankan Consulate of Dubai states that representatives of 25 private sector companies from Sri Lanka would also be in attendance at this meeting with the aim looking at further foreign employment opportunities.

The ‘high tea’ meeting with the minister and delegates is scheduled to commence at 5pm.
