A Dubai-based group is calling upon residents and visitors in the UAE to join them this evening [Sunday] to laugh with them as they celebrate the World Laughter Day.
The hour-long session will start at 7.30pm at Gate number 2 in Zabeel Park, Dubai. It is organised by Friends of Yoga group.
“Hundreds are expected to participate. It will just be an evening of laughter. Every one is free to join us. It is a therapy for good health,” says K B Madhavan, co-founder, Friends of Yoga.
World Laughter Day, which was started in 1998 by Laughter Yoga movement, boasts more than 6,000 Laughter Clubs spread over 65 countries. “It is important to develop the art of laughing given that our days are stressful - on the personal front and at work. Laughing helps our body release ‘feel good’ hormones into the bloodstream. These hormones are related to feelings of happiness, warmth, unconditional love, bonding, tolerance, forgiveness, generosity and compassion,” says Madhavan.
According to him, Friends of Yoga, which sets off in Dubai today has branches across 16 countries with several branches claiming more than 1,000 members. The group organises free yoga sessions across the UAE in the mornings and evenings. “We have regular classes in Deira – opposite the Dubai Municipality building; Bur Dubai near British Council; in Zabeel Park; International City; Rashidiya; Jebel Ali Gardens; and Al Nahda Park apart from five locations in Sharjah and one in Abu Dhabi.
