A 40-year-old British woman has died after bingeing on fried chicken and fish and chips in hospital – even though doctors forbade her from doing so.

Sharon Mevsimler, 40, had been declared ‘Britain’s fattest woman’ by The Sun newspaper, which broke the story.

It said she begged her family to sneak take-aways into the hospital despite being on a strict diet – and being fitted with a gastric band.

The mother-of-four died of a heart attack. She was so huge that a trolley reportedly collapsed as she was wheeled to the mortuary.

Last night an NHS source told The Sun she died less than two weeks after it revealed how Sharon was the UK's most overweight woman:

“She simply would not stop eating. She obviously had a serious underlying problem with food, but did nothing to help herself,” the paper quoted a National Health Service source as saying.

“Those who came to visit her in hospital did her no favours. We saw them bringing in various fatty foods like fish and chips and huge portions of fried chicken when she should not have been eating these things.

“It was infuriating to see her literally eating herself to death.”

Of normal weight when she married in her 20s, Mevsimler blamed post-natal depression for piling on the pounds as she became addicted to comfort eating. Her bulk put so much strain on her lungs she needed an oxygen tank to breathe.
