Acting on a tip-off from Dubai’s authorities, a UAE counter-narcotic squads has arrested an Emirati man described as “one of the big heads” in drug trafficking in the country.

The man was captured in a raid codenamed ‘Operation Tent’ and nearly 50kg of hashish was found stacked in a tent adjoining the dealer’s house in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain. Other drugs were also seized from his car.

“This operation was a strong blow to drug dealers in the country and illustrated the coordination among the various authorities in the UAE.

“The operation resulted in the arrest of one of the big heads in narcotic trafficking. Unfortunately, the dealer is an Emirati who has been involved in major drug smuggling and had contacts with smugglers abroad,” said Major General Khalil Al Mansouri, Dubai’s police assistant commander for criminal investigation.

He said police raided the man’s house in early May and also found seven mobile phones, credit cards issued by several banks and a large number of remittances, adding that the dealer used to transfer part of the funds to the dealers abroad.
