Dubai Police arrested 30 drivers involved in car racing on key roads in the first quarter of 2016 within a crackdown on dangerous practices by reckless motorists.
Police figures showed the emirate also recorded 391 offences involving driving in a way that “poses a threat to human lives,” according to Major General Mohammed Al Zafin, Dubai’s assistant police commander in chief for operations.
Quoted by the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm, he said there were also 721 offences involving reckless driving on various roads of the emirate, adding that all those violations include penalties ranging from Dh1,000-2,000 fines to 12 black points and seizure of the vehicle for one month.
He said that a total 1.368 million offences were recorded in Dubai in the first quarter of 2016, including about 776,000 speeding offences, 16,938 mobile phone abuses, more than 19,000 seat belt violations, 680 jumping of the red light and 327 offences involving driving under the influence of alcohol.
