New cameras will be installed across Dubai roads to catch motorists who jump queues at exists and turns, reported Al Bayan.

Brigadier Kamel Butti Al Suwaidi, Director, General Directorate of Operations, said that in the first phase of its implementation 30 cameras will be installed to monitor vehicles that bypass long queues at exits, intersections and turns.

These new cameras will also capture motorists jumping red signals, driving on hard shoulder and entering the yellow-box areas at traffic junctions.

The smart cameras will analyse vehicle movements and will send the captured violation reports to the Operations Room of Dubai Police directly, the report said.

The cameras are also equipped to track vehicles on four tracks from either side, thus helping police patrols, said Al Suwaidi.

It will also help in accident cases, directing police patrols to reach the site accurately and quickly.

Helping those in need

Al Suwaidi said Dubai Police provide all necessary help to those in need, such as people with special needs as well as patients and the elderly.

Those with hearing disability and elderly cardiac patients can use the SOS system to alert police for help.

Similarly, Dubai Police has helped citizens abroad through SOS.

Vehicles breaking down

However, Al Suwaidi, stressed that vehicles breaking down on roads do not come under the purview of police.  He explained that motorists should call towing companies to help move their vehicles to avoid traffic jams.

The Directorate General of Smart Services at Dubai Police has issued an update of its iPhone app.

The update includes services that enable users to access customer service archives and check out their transactions.

Also, the updated app will offer information about the nearest police station to their place.
