Traffic accidents in Al Ain claimed 53 lives in the first eight months of this year, according to Al Ittihad newspaper.

Meanwhile, there has been a 120 per cent decline in deaths resulting from reckless driving and excessive speeding, with 10 reported deaths this year compared to 22 during the same period last year, said Maj. Mohsen Al Mansouri, Acting Head, Department of Traffic, Al Ain.

Of the 53 fatalties, 12 were cases of being run-over, while 45 per cent of the victims were nationals, he added.

Maj Al Mansouri spoke of measures to intensify mobile and fixed patrols on the roads to check fatal mishaps.
