7-day clean-up Dubai drive

Dubai Municipality has launched a week-long clean-up campaign in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (Unep).

The ‘Clean Up the World’ campaign, under the slogan ‘Our Place… Our Planet… Our Responsibility’, was inaugurated by Hussain Nasser Lootah, director-general of Dubai Municipality.

“The civic body aims to achieve the zero waste concept using the method of reusing, recycling and reducing waste,” Lootah said.

He visited various activities, workshops, exhibitions and programmes organised by school students, companies and organisations participating in the clean-up drive.

The campaign’s activities include cleaning of beaches, parks and Dubai creek, and seek the involvement of local companies, schools, organisations and government departments.

The civic body will equip the participants with all cleaning equipment.

“This year we received tremendous response from all segments to join the clean-up campaign, as the number of volunteers registered reached above 40,000 showing the increased awareness and interest of individuals, companies, schools and government departments to participate in the environmental initiatives,” said Abdul Majeed Saifaie , director waste management department.

“Having completed 20 years of eventful journey with the global initiative ‘Clean Up The World’ campaign, Dubai Municipality’s waste management department is extremely proud to be a key role player in creating environment awareness through its various initiatives.”
