Forty three per cent of CVs submitted by job seekers in Gulf countries contain false data, particularly about experience and qualifications, said Dr Thamer  Sadiqi, Director of Arabian Centres Employment Services.

According to a study conducted by the centre in 2011, fraud in CVs increase in times of economic crisis and lack of employment opportunities, Dr Sadiqi said.

The percentage of fraud in CVs from countries like Bangladesh can up to 73 per cent, he added.

This came in the ‘Rouh Al Qanoon’ (‘Spirit of the Law’) programme produced by lawyer Isa bin Haider for Noor Dubai radio station. The last episode of the programme discussed false information in resumes.

Incorrect data about age, educational qualifications or previous experience can be found out by contacting the university or the previous employer, said Dr Sadiqi.

The employer has the right to fire an employee if incorrect data is discovered in the first months of empoloyment, he said.

Samih Raslan  of the  Irshad Foundation said job seekers should be honest in writing their CVs. He said experience and age are important for getting a job, but that depends on the type of job. Positions such as financial and administrative director do not require youth but young age is required for customer service jobs. Data in CVs can be verified in several ways, he added.

In one case, a man had claimed to be an Emirati in his CV but it was discovered he was a ‘bedoon’ though he had lived in the UAE for a long time, he added.

Advocate Ali Musapah said the employer had the right to inform the police if he finds that an employee has given false data in his CV. The employee can also file a civil lawsuit against him, demanding refund of money spent by the company on the employee, he added.
