A Gulf man working for a government department in Abu Dhabi has been accused of stealing nearly Dh980,000 in public funds by using his position to transfer the sum to his personal bank account, a newspaper said on Monday.
Anti-corruption officials found out that the unnamed employee used his powers in accessible the department’s electronic fund transfer system to put the money into his account in a bank in the emirate, the Arabic language daily Emarat Alyoum said.
The employee later admitted the crime and returned all the funds to the department , including fees charged by the bank for the earlier transfer.
The employee has been referred to the public prosecutor on charges of using his position to take public funds, the paper said.
