A blast rattled a popular restaurant on Beach Road on Tuesday morning, with Dubai Civil Defence teams successfully containing the site, as investigations are underway.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred on the premises of the Turkish restaurant, Bosporus, around 6am, with Dubai Civil Defence teams arriving shortly to contain the scene.

A Dubai Civil Defence representative stated its teams were able to extinguish the fire and are currently containing the area, as Dubai Police authorities carry out investigations.

No injuries were reported.

Quizzed whether the incident, which caused windows of neighbouring buildings to shatter, was caused due to a gas cylinder explosion, and the Civil Defence representative stated it was too soon to comment.

The interior and exterior of the restaurant has sustained damage, with glass windows and doors shattered, and debris scattered around the Beach Road; an exterior wooden trellis has also sustained damage.

Neighbouring businesses, such as next-door Hamptons Café, are closed following the incident.
