Space may be the final frontier for Trekkies, but these voyages of the International Space Station (ISS) are certainly ones that will put a smile on the faces of Dubai denizens.

A stunning aerial view of the emirate, as seen from orbital space, has just surfaced on social media, courtesy British astronaut Tim Peake.
Working with the European Space Agency (ESA), Peake is currently aboard the ISS for a six-month stint, where he captured Dubai’s visual treat of The Palm and The World Islands.

In corresponding tweets, the astronaut also admitted his desire to capture that picture perfect view of Dubai’s coastline.
He stated: “I've been waiting to get a pic of The Palms, Dubai and then this happened just prior to capture :) #LuckyDay.”
Followers of Peake on Twitter also discovered, photoboming is not limited to Earth alone.
The astronaut posted a second image, a close-up of Dubai’s man-made islands, adding: “Minus the Dragon photobomb this time...”
A former test pilot and a British Army Air Corps officer, Peake’s time in space is part of the Principia mission, a long-duration flight to the ISS, making him the first British ESA astronaut to visit the Space Station.
This is not the first time Dubai has been captured on space camera, with 2005 seeing the now famous daytime snapshot of The Palm Jumeirah taken by NASA Commander Leroy Chiao from aboard the ISS.
Last year, NASA also posted a night-time capture of the emirate, stating: “City lights of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, featured in this image taken by the Expedition 30 crew aboard the ISS.”
