Dubai police arrested a 30-year-old Pakistani man who used forged bank cheques with government stamps to embezzle Dhmillions from local traders.

The defendant, identified as AB, managed to deceive 32 dealers and companies in Dubai and other emirates before he was nabbed by Dubai’s police following a hunting operation that lasted more than three months.

“He committed 28 fraud crimes involving 32 companies, dealers and shops…he embezzled Dhmillions worth of goods using post-dated cheques carrying the slogan of a government department,” Dubai’s CID chief Brigadier Khalil Al Mansoori said.

He said the man was nabbed when a company in Garhood reported to the police that a person with the same features was trying to buy nearly Dhfour million worth of air condition sets with post dated cheques.

“We made a trap inside that company…our men made sure to take one of the defendant’s victims to identify him…once he did, they arrested him red handed,” he said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Emarat Alyoum.

Embezzler gets 10 years jail in absence

An Abu Dhabi court sentenced an Asian man to 10 years in jail in his absence on charges of embezzling more than Dh23,000 from a government department, where he worked as a customer service employee.

His manager discovered the theft on the next day after checking the safe, where proceeds from customer fees are deposited.

The unidentified defendant was found to have travelled to his home country on that day, prompting the manager to report him to the police.
