The Dubai Cassation Court upheld the death sentence awarded to an Egyptian who was found guilty of premeditated murder and theft.

The First Instance Court has awarded the death penalty which was last month upheld by the Court of Appeal.

AM was found guilty of killing his compatriot HM in his apartment at Al Baraha area and stealing cash and other belongings.

The convict pleaded not guilty and claimed that the victim was still alive when he left his flat.

Dubai Prosecution had accused AM of hitting HM's head with a sharp tool. The defendant was also accused of stealing the victim's cash, credit cards, personal belongings and car.

The Prosecution sheet said AM drove HM's car, invited his girlfriend to the movies and bought her jewellery worth Dh7,000.

A policeman testified that 18 gold bracelets and a mobile phone were found in AM's apartment.

The victim's brother testified that the motive of the murder was to steal more than Dh11,000 from the victim. He came to the country after failing to contact his brother over the phone.

Forensic report proved that victim succumbed to severe head injuries.
