Nicholas Warner, a marketing executive who has had his passport held by police since he defaulted on his credit card with Emirates NBD bank, has got his passport back with the help of locals and expat sponsor and is flying back to the UK.

“A group managed to find a way to get his passport released by the Dubai judicial system by paying around £8,000 directly to the courts, circumventing the bank.

After checking the passport was free of any travel bans, they bought him a flight back to England,” BBC News reported on its website on Monday.

Nicholas said he was unable to reach an agreement with Emirates NBD that was satisfactory to both sides.

The bank said it had made him several offers in the last month, but he says that each of this offers came with conditions that made it untenable.

Warner had been sleeping in parks and public places around the city for nearly 12 weeks.
