The next time you see flowers on the roadside in Dubai and feel like plucking them, don’t, because you could end up paying as much as Dh1,000 as fine.

Mohammed Al Awadi, Head of Horticulture Section of Public Parks and Horticulture Department at Dubai Municipality, has urged the public to be aware of fines imposed by Dubai Municipality for plucking beautification flowers from any part of the emirate.

He said the civic body will impose a fine of Dh500-1,000 for plucking any flower and will not consider any excuse such as age, gender or ignorance about the rule and regulations as destroying public property is considered as crime according to the Organisational Decision No 12 of 1998 preventing individuals or companies from destroying the plants or flowers in the emirate of Dubai for any reason.

“Some people have a habit of plucking beautiful flowers when they see it without thinking about the consequences.

“We also learned that some groups are plucking flowers in bulk to sell it in flower shops and make a profit. They must understand that the civic body has been spending millions of dirhams to import all these beautification flowers and cultivate it across the city and important places in the emirate,” Awadi said.

“Everyone can see the efforts of Public Parks and Horticulture Department and its dedicated employees to keep the city green and beautiful, which makes Dubai different from other cities in the region,' he added.

He also urged the public to report any violation by calling DM's hotline 800900.
