The Dh3.4million required for the release of 17 Indians accused of killing a Pakistani national in Sharjah will be handed over to the court on Wednesday.

SP Singh, owner of Grand Hotel in Al Qusais, said the total amount required to be paid to the family of the slain Pakistani man is ready and will be handed over tomorrow.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7 on Tuesday evening he said, “We paid the token advance earlier. The remaining amount is ready. We will be handing it over in the court tomorrow, following which the pardon letter will be issued,” he said.

The 17 Indian men were arrested following the killing of Misri Nazir Khan in the Saaja industrial area of Sharjah in January 2009 following a dispute between two rival gangs involved in bootlegging. The legal team of the accused Indian men had appealed in the higher court, after the lower court convicted all of them to death accusing them of murder.

The legal team represented by Mohammad Salman Advocates and Legal Consultants had been all along insisting against the payment of blood money, claiming that it would amount to admission of guilt.

Bindu Chettar, senior lawyer with the firm had earlier said that the police had no concrete evidence to prove that the men were guilty.
