Sony’s first 4K LCD TV, the giant 84-inch machine that can display images four times the resolution of full HD standard, has been launched in the UAE.

The Bravia LCD television boasts a 4K (3840 x 2160) LCD panel, comprising 8.29 megapixels, and incorporates Sony’s proprietary ‘4K X-Reality PRO’ super-resolution high-picture quality engine.

According to Sony’s Hiroyasu Sugiyama, managing director, Sony Middle East and Africa, this engine is capable of reproducing any content with different resolutions such as movies, photographs and games, into “stunningly crisp, high-quality images with 4K resolution.”

The technology allows a viewer to be seated as close as 1.5 metres from the screen.

“Viewers will not be bothered by the pixels and notice that images are breathtakingly realistic and beautifully clear – an all-encapsulating panoramic viewing experience previously unavailable from a TV,” he added.

Not just that, even the 3D footage, which usually comes in full HD, is enhanced to 4K quality using a polarising sheet on the television screen.

The TV is priced at Dh99,999 and will be on sale at leading Jumbo outlets starting November 18.

Following the UAE launch the product will be soon be available in other GCC countries.

Yukinobu Tsuda, Sony Gulf’s CTV marketing manager,  said the previous 65” Bravia  was priced at Dh20,000 but managed to sell more than 200 units in the UAE. “We are confident of a good result with not just the B2B clients but those who buy the units for personal use as well.”

The TV will include 3D passive glasses that require no batteries. In addition, the ‘10 Unit Live Speaker’ side speaker system, optimised for large-size screen and combined with Sony’s sound signal-processing technology, is said to achieve powerful three-dimensional sound.
