Dubai cabbie can win you iPhone 5 (and you can get him Dh10,000)

Taxi drivers the world over mostly figure as main characters in stories that recount a less-than memorable experience.

The Road Transport Authority’s Dubai Taxi Corporation will now give you the chance to tell a different story as regards your experience with Dubai Taxis.

Between October 15 and December 13 of this year, you get to vote for your best taxi driver, or to simply rate the driver you have encountered.

Not only will the taxi driver you voted for stand a chance to be rewarded with Dh10,000, but you are entered in a draw to win an iPhone 5.

The campaign is called 'Rewarding Rides' and the taxi corporation’s announcement read: "At Dubai Taxi Corporation, we make sure that every minute in a red-roof taxi is as rewarding as possible, be it for drivers or passengers, which is why we are going the extra mile with the Rewarding Rides initiative, designed to bring a smile to every face."

To participate in the contest, which only covers red-top taxis, there are two options.

You can send an SMS to 6555 in the format RR taxiside# your name and rating.

The rating should be a single number between 1-5, with 1  being unsatisfied and 5 being extremely satisfied.

Or, if you have NFC on your smartphone, it can be used to add your name and rating to a message that will show up on your screen.

A single driver can be nominated up to five times.

Draws will be held on November 14 and December 13.
