Providing special premises for the Personal Status Court is aimed at giving privacy to families, which is their right.

"A new building for Personal Status Court, to which the relevant court will move into next October, is aimed at ensuring privacy," said Mohammed Al Obaidli, Head of the Personal Status Court.

"The new building is situated in the Al Garhoud area and come October 2017,  the court would no longer have offices in the main building of Dubai Courts, Creek side," he said.

"This is in line with the directions of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Judiciary Council.

“Family members in dispute would feel more relaxed to visit the court for reconciliation or divorce,” he noted.

Moreover, the new premise has a rear gate that would allow disputing families who have appointments with the family reconciliation section total privacy.

“This would help avoid embarrassment from mixing with other types of clients and visitors. Ensuring privacy is the right of the disputed parties in addition to being an important factor that would help avoid aggravation of disputes," Obaidli said.

"The court is keen to provide reconciliation services in a convenient environment to help increase reconciliation rather than divorce,” he added.

The Personal Status court is looking to raise the reconciliation percentage between husbands and wives from the current 70 per cent achieved during the first half of this year.

"Currently, our Family Reconciliation Section is achieving 5 per cent increase year-on-year.

"Last year, we amicably solved 65 per cent of disputes reported to the court against 60 per cent in the year before. The new premises is providing 15 rooms specified for Family Reconciliation," he noted.

As well, divorced parents who would seek to meet their children away from houses could use the gate to help ensure complete privacy for them, added Al Obaidli.

On the other hand, the new premises provides more courtrooms and this would help hearing cases and reaching ruling in shorter times.

In addition, hearings sessions will be held in different times during the day, to help minimize mixing between clients, avoid embarrassment and reduce pressure on the parking lots, he added.
