Dubai Police authorities came to the rescue of marooned sailors on Monday when their dhow ran aground off the coast of the Palm Deira.
The authorities confirmed the daring rescue, saying a team using specialised marine towing equipment braved high winds and waves to save crewmembers of a dhow who found themselves marooned when their boat veered off course and ran aground near the Palm Deira.
“Immediately after receiving the report, rescue teams were deployed,” confirmed Major Ali Abdullah Al Qaseeb Al Naqbi, Director of the Maritime Rescue Department at the Department of Transport and Rescue of Dubai Police, in a statement.

He added: “However, the operation was challenging due to the high waves, and we had to approach the dhow carefully.”
Authorities further said that the Dubai Police Search and Rescue team is on call 24-7 and have rescue boats, water bikes and police cars.
Over the past few days, strong northerwesterly winds have given rise to blowing sand across land, along with rough seas off shore, with wave height reaching six to eight feet at times.
