Dubai’s biggest mosque is slated to open on July 29, Friday, just a couple of days ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

The opening will be marked by with Friday prayers. Invitations have been sent across to rulers and sheikhs of all the emirates to attending the opening ceremony of the mosque - one of the three biggest in the UAE. The mosque will cater to Al Safa area and its neighbourhoods.

Named Al Farooq Mosque and Islamic Centre, the whole complex is spanned over 8,700 square metres and is inspired by the 17th century Sultan Ahmed Mosque (also known as Blue Mosque) in Istanbul, Turkey.

The mosque itself is being built on 4,200 square metres and can accommodate 2,000 worshipers, Khaleej Times reported on Friday.

The mosque’s architecture is a mixture of Ottoman and Andalusian styles.

Dubai’s Blue Mosque will have a library with a collection of some 4,000 Islamic and other religious titles to help advance learning and a lecture hall that will be host to inter-faith dialogue to forge better religious understanding.
