Eida to hasten ID delivery process

The Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) is planning to expedite the delivery of its ID cards to applicants through the UAE as part of a strategy to upgrade its services to the public, a local newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Eida, which oversees an ambitious ID project covering all people in the UAE, said it was discussing measures to cut the delivery process from weeks to days, adding that the plan would be announced soon.

“Eida will soon announce a plan to curtail the long process of delivery cards to holders to just days after they submit their applications,” EIDA said after a meeting this week, according to the Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm'.

It said the new measures are part of Eida's 2010-2013 strategy intended to upgrade services to applicants to ensure a quick process of delivery and application for a new card or renewal of the old one.

Eida said last month the strategy also includes online application for the card, a facility that will allow the public to apply online without having to go to is offices.

Eida sources said a deadline that ended in June for those without IDs to apply had been extended but noted that a penalty system would soon be enforced to ensure ID holders will renew expired cards on time.
