Ras Al Khaimah’s Misdemeanours Court has set November 2 as the date for hearing the defence arguments of five accused people in the drowning of a European and his daughter, according to a report in the UAE-based Arabic daily newspaper Al Bayan.
The two people drowned when they could not operate their parachute properly and fell into the sea.
Investigations showed the two drowned due to break down of the boat dragging the parachute and delay in rescuing them.
However, investigators also said that after the two of them fell in the sea, the boat’s captain called the tour company’s rescue team, though it took 10 minutes for them to reach the victims.
During investigations, the director of the tour company denied responsibility for the accident and stressed that the victims had signed papers attesting to their training on safe use of parachutes.
He also pointed out that the boat’s captain swam more than 200 metres to save the victims but arrived too late.
