Fake CIDs con Filipino couple

Two jobless Emiratis and a Palestinian are in the dock for posing as CID officers to steal from an unsuspecting Filipino couple in Dubai.

The three men – JIN, 33, KAR, 31 and the Palestinian MDD, 27 – stopped Antoni Kabodwi, 32, who works as a messenger and his wife Marcel Kwa, 32, employed as a waitress, while they were going home in Al Jaflia.

Police said the men used the same method to con residents in 15 other cases.

Antoni testified that one of the men flashed an identity card claiming he was a CID officer and sought to know about the couple’s residency status.

The three men accompanied the couple to their home. While Antoni took out his wallet to show his documents, he was slapped.

The victim then left the wallet on his TV and asked the man why he slapped him. Meanwhile, the other two grabbed the wallet and ran.

Chased by Antoni, the man flung the wallet on the road and continued running.

The couple recognised the three men in an identification parade after they were nabbed.
