Four members of a family were killed when their car rammed into a four-wheel vehicle parked by a Jordanian woman in the middle of the road on Sheikh Zayed motorway after it suffered from a tyre puncture, newspapers reported on Saturday.

A driver who was passing through that area told Dubai’s police that he had warned the woman to instantly take her car off the road but that she did not listen.

The woman was on her way from Dubai to Abu Dhabi on Thursday night when her car tyre went down, prompting her to stop the car on the third lane, ignoring that driver’s warning to take it off the road and fix the tyre on the hard shoulder area.

Minutes later, a small car with five passengers coming fast from Dubai crashed into that vehicle after its driver was caught off guard by the presence of the vehicle on the road.

The crash was so powerful that it pushed the four-wheel vehicle nearly 40 metres on the road. The accident resulted in the death of its driver, 34, another man, 60, a 28-year-old woman and a nine-month-old boy. Another woman in the car was seriously wounded.

“The victims belong to one family…the Jordanian woman was not hurt as she was outside the car at the time of the accident,” Dubai traffic prosecutor Salah Al Falasi said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum.

“This accident is a result of a wrong practice by the Jordanian woman…unfortunately it had led to similar accidents before…it is not reasonable that a driver leaves  his car in the middle of a road where the speed limit is 140 kph…an entire family has perished as a result of a grave mistake by this driver.”

He said the prosecution and Dubai traffic police are still investigating the accident before taking legal measures against those responsible.
