Female poet named 'person of the month'

An Emirati female poet, film director and writer, has won the monthly “person of the month” award, which was introduced by the Dubai-based Emarat Alyoum Arabic language daily nearly four years ago.

Nujoum Al Ghanim was given the award for December for her innovations and contributions to poetry, art and film industry in the region, the paper said.

“She also attended many poetry festivals in the UAE, the Arab region and other countries and translated  poems to several languages including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Urdu,” the paper’s editor in chief Sami Al Riyami said.

He said Ghanim was also selected for the unique prize for her valuable contributions to poetry and film industry in the UAE and other countries. “She a symbol of creativity that has boosted the image of the UAE in many cultural events worldwide,” he said.
