Karama Centre in Dubai evacuated...

Karama Centre was evacuated this morning as part of the Civil Defence’s fire drill to train staff on evacuation in case of emergency.

The staff and workers at the Centre were informed about the drill two days in advance but passersby and motorists were indeed a worried lot.

A couple of calls 'Emirates24|7' received from onlookers said the mall was being evacuated following an emergency situation. However staff later confirmed that the exercise was part of the Dubai Civil Defense training programme.

“The exercise started at around 10.30am. The whole centre was evacuated in 15 minutes. Later on the officials provided a training for security staff. We were all back inside by 11am,” said Divya one of the mall employees.

Last week a fire in a Bur Dubai building killed an Indian man and damaged two nearby buildings.

Karama Civil Defence rushed to the spot and prevented the fire from spreading.

The Forensic and Criminology Department of the Dubai Police have initiated a probe following the incident.
