UPDATE: Dubai residents were greeted with light drizzle this morning.

An Emirates 24|7 reader, who was waiting for a cab near the Dubai Trade Centre sent a message that it was drizzling around 11:40am.

WEATHER FORECAST

The overcast UAE sky is signaling rain in the horizon as the country’s weather bureau confirm 48-hours of scattered showers, with a drop in temperatures.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has also warned of wind speeds reaching 55kms per hour, raising dust and sand over open areas and reducing horizontal visibility in parts.

The NCMS’ Sunday forecast further stated: “Hazy and partly cloudy at times with drop in temperatures. The amount of clouds will increase gradually with chance of slight rain especially over the coastal, western and islands areas.

“Moderate winds in general, freshening at times causing blowing dust and poor visibility over open land areas. Moderate sea in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate in the Oman Sea.”

The Mercury is expected to dip as low as 20 degrees Celsius in the internal and coastal areas of the country on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the lowest temperature recorded over the country this morning dropped to 17.4°C at Jabal Jais at 5am.

This weather pattern is expected to continue tomorrow, with a further drop in temperatures, as per the NCMS.

Tomorrow’s forecast further states: “The amount of clouds will increase gradually with chance of slight rain especially over the coastal, western and islands areas.”

The weather will continue to be hazy and cloudy on Monday.

The overcast sky has also stretched to neighbouring Oman, which has been experiencing thunderstorms since last Thursday.

The Oman Meteorology has also forecasted ‘scattered thunderstorms and heavy local rainfall, with active winds’ with a ‘cold front’ caused by cumulus clouds that may extend to the Oman Sea.

The Met office there further stated: “Chance of connective clouds over Al Hajar mountains and adjoining areas in the afternoon, with chance of isolated rain and occasional thundershowers associated with fresh downdraft wind and hail.”
