A Sri Lankan housemaid has completed nearly 31 years of work for an Emirati family in Fujairah and has no immediate plans to leave. Her long trouble-free service has just been admired by local authorities.
Rambo Kanjai Toseta Kanti has been working for the family in Madhab area in the eastern emirate since she was a young girl and has managed to maintain a good relationship with her employers through that period. Both the maid and her employer, Fatima Mohammed Al Awadi, were honoured on Monday by Brigadier Mubarak bin Sanan, Director-General of the Department of Residence and Foreigners’ Affairs in Fujairah.
"Fatima was honoured for having a strong and good relationship with her maid while Kanti was honored for her loyalty, sincerity, commitment and good conduct…such characteristics have prompted the Emirati family to keep the maid for more than three decades,” the Arabic language daily 'Al Khaleej' said.
The paper quoted Brigadier Mubarak as saying that the relationship between Fatima and her maid should be an example to be followed by all other employers and housemaids in the UAE.“I call upon all families to treat their maids nicely and avoid harming them or burdening them with work that exceeds their capacity,” he said.
“At the same time, they should not let their maids interfere in everything in their houses and lives without any control…this will produce good results and ensure strong relationship between the maids and their employers.”
