A 33-year-old UAE national, Khamees Mohamed Al Qusaidi, sustained second and third degree burns on his hands and legs, while he was rescuing his wife and his 8-month-old baby from a fire that broke out at his house in the Al Qusiadat area, Ras Al Khaimah (RAK).

According to a Gulf Today report, he said he had to remove the iron barrier of his bedroom window to save his family, as he was unable to get in through the house as a result of the thick smoke.

Al Qusaidi said his wife, Umm Mohamed, called him in the afternoon telling him that the house was on fire and that she and the baby were trapped in the bedroom.

After failing to enter the house, he said he took out the iron barrier on the window so he could get his family out.

After he got his wife and baby out of the house, he called the operation room to report the fire. He then lost consciousness due to the burns and was transferred to Saqr Hospital for treatment.

Sources at the civil defense said the fire broke out because of a short circuit in the living room air conditioner.

Firefighters controlled the fire and extinguished it, sources added.
