The Dubai Misdemeanour Court has ordered Craig Andrew Moore, the former captain of Australian national football team, to pay Dh1,000 fine for consuming alcohol.
Moore, who is out on bail, appeared before the court and pleaded guilty to the charge of consuming alcohol. The Presiding Judge Abdullah Khulaif Abu Zaid fined him Dh1,000.
The Dubai Prosecution had filed only the charge of consuming alcohol against Moore and referred the case to the Misdemeanour Court, Chief Prosecutor of Bur Dubai Prosecution Sami Al Shamsi said in a press statement last Wednesday.
The prosecution dropped three primary accusations of assaulting and insulting a public employee (policeman) and refraining from paying taxi fares that were filed by Dubai Police against Moore.
The three primary accusations were waived after the complainants dropped their personal rights following an amicable resolution of the issue and Moore’s payment of the taxi fares, said Al Shamsi.
Al Shamsi said Prosecutor Ahmad Al Zarouni started investigating the case once it was referred from Dubai Police on September 20.
Al Zarouni investigated with Moore and heard the testimonies of the victims who dropped their personal rights against the accused.
Closing the investigations, the Dubai Prosecution found out that there is no prima facie case for criminal misdemeanour of assault and insult of a public employee and refusing to pay taxi fare due to the concession and payment.
