Online ID registration starts on Sunday

UAE authorities overseeing an ambitious national identity project will launch an online registration facility on Sunday to mark the start of 2012 after following a test period over the past days.

The facility will be first available to Emiratis in the first two months before it is generalized to all people in the country.

“Online ID registration will begin tomorrow after a trial period over the past few days proved it is successful,” said Ali Khouri, director general of the Emirates Identity Authority (Eida).

He said online applicants would have to set up an electronic account with Eida so they can pay by an electronic card when registering online.

He said online registration would facilitate the process and cut time and effort for applicants, especially for companies which have over 100 employees.

“The new online registration form will reduce errors as it will include less data and applicants can follow up their applications through Eida website.”
