The month-long overseas voting for the Philippine elections, which will determine its 16th President and other government heads, will begin on Saturday, with the timings for the voters in the UAE released.

In a public advisory issued by the Consulate General of the republic of the Philippines Dubai, the timings in Dubai will be from 8am to 9pm, from April 9 to May 8. On April 9, the timing will also be from 5am to 1pm.

“PCG Dubai will employ 11 voting counting machine during the election period,” it read, adding, “Schedule of the election in other areas in Dubai and the Northern Emirates will be announced to the public as soon as approved.”

Talking to Emirates24|7, Consul Ferdinand Flores informed there are over 122,000 voters registered for Dubai and the Northern Emirate.

The timings, he said, have been divided into two shifts – 8am to 4pm, and 1pm to 9pm.

“Come during voting hours. We have an updated list of voters for our region on our website, and we urge the voters to check their names on our websites before coming in,” he said, adding that the weekend schedule will be more convenient for the working class.

The elections will also determine its vice-president, who will each fill a six-year term. The elections will also be held for executive and legislative branches for all levels of government – national, provincial, and local, except for the village officials.

According to the Commission of Elections in the Republic of the Philippines, overseas elections will be held in United States of America, Spain, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
