The Higher Steering Committee of the Pink Caravan Ride, PCR, a breast cancer awareness initiative by the Friends of Cancer Patients, FoCP, has called on Emirati doctors, as well as resident doctors and nurses of all nationalities, to join its 7th annual ride, under the banner, ‘Seven Years for Seven Emirates’.
The ten-day horse ride will begin in the Emirate of Sharjah on Tuesday, 7th March.
The committee has announced that registration will be open for male and female healthcare providers via the official website from 12th January to 7th February.
Registration is open to those covering general medicine, family medicine and radiology, X-Ray technicians and nurses.
Over the past six years, the PCR has successfully raised awareness on the importance of early detection and helped to dispel the myths about breast cancer.
The teams have offered medical advice and lectures and provided organised workshops at 87 schools and 410 medical clinics, offering free detection examinations for 41,391 people, including 8,526 men.
Dr. Sawsan Al Madhi, Director-General of FoCP and Head of the PCR Medical and Awareness Committee, said, "We depend on medical clinics, who are one of the four bedrocks to raise community awareness about breast cancer. Doctors, nurses and X-Ray technicians are instrumental in encouraging individuals and families to undergo free tests and screenings as well as providing them with detailed information on breast cancer and how to deal with it as patients."
Every year through the medical clinics, the PCR provides citizens and residents in the UAE with free screenings and breast cancer patients with moral support and medical treatment free of charge.
