A Georgian woman, who went to the Dubai Central Jail to visit her imprisoned son, is facing the accusation of abusing a public employee - a policewoman who was performing her duty - allegedly for not arranging a locker for her bag.

The Dubai Misdemeanour Court on Wednesday heard the testimony of the complainant who said the woman abused her by saying the “F” word both in the Russian and Arabic languages.

The defendant, identified as SS, 53, business partner, denied the accusation both before the prosecution and in the court yesterday.

As per the rules, visitors are not allowed to carry anything with them while visiting prisoners. On April 24, SS went to the jail to visit her son. All the lockers had been taken by other visitors so the policewoman asked her to wait until someone finishes their visit or to come next Monday.

SS told the prosecution that while she was waiting a Russian woman finished her visit, so she asked her for the key of the locker. The policewoman also asked the woman to give her the locker.

“Then the policewoman turned to me and asked about my conversation with the Russian woman, and whether I had abused her. I denied that I had abused her. Then she asked me for the visitor card and told me to come on Monday,” SS told investigators.

SS complained to the officer on duty about the policewoman that she was preventing her from visiting her son. The officer allowed her in and told the policewoman to give her a locker and the visiting card, SS said.

The complainant, AI, told investigators that SS threw her bag on her table and asked her for a locker. As no lockers were available, she was asked to wait. SS did not want to wait and asked the policewoman to keep her bag.

“As this is not allowed, and I apologised to her,” said AI.

SS told investigators: “This is not true. The policewoman asked me to keep my bag in my car. I told her that I do not have a car.”

When asked by investigators why she thinks the policewoman was making this claim, SS said: “Probably because I complained against her to her senior.”

AI insisted in the court that SS abused her by saying very dirty words in Arabic.

“As for the phrases she said to me in Russian I cannot complain because I do not remember the words and I do not know their meanings,” AI told the court.

When asked by the defence lawyer why she asked the Russian woman to give her the locker key instead of giving it to SS herself, the policewoman said this is the rule. The locker should be empty before the key is given to another visitor.

When asked whether Captain Abdullah Saeed allow SS to visit her son, AI answered in the affirmative, adding: “He did that despite the fact that she abused him too.”

On the request of the defence lawyer, the court adjourned the case for hearing the witnesses.
