UAE will enjoy the Schengen visa waiver soon, according to Giorgio Starace, Italian ambassador to UAE.

He was speaking on the sidelines of a meeting discussing the Milan Expo 2015 and during the opening day of the Gulfood exhibition in Dubai.

According to Arabic dailies, the Ambassador said, “Most procedures have been finalised and the process should be completed soon, and this is the latest information that we have received from Brussels.”

Starace, however, did not say when the visa-free travel may commence but hinted that it will be somewhere around spring this year and added that UAE is a strategic partner of Italy and this waiver will help increase the flow of Emiratis to Europe and not just Italy.

In February last year, 523 of the 577 members of the European Parliament voted to allow visa-free travel for UAE citizens.

The Schengen Zone consists of 26 states, including 22 of the 28 EU member countries.
