As the Mercury dips further into December, parts of the UAE has already recorded temperatures hovering around 6° Celsius, with this cold front to continue over the weekend in pockets of the country.
The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has also warned motorists that foggy conditions will continue through the weekend across the internal parts of the country, especially the western Liwa region, but shouldn’t play a damper on skywatchers who may be heading out to catch the Geminid meteor shower that peaks this Friday and Saturday.
Speaking to Emirates 24|7, a spokesperson for NCMS said: “The weathers is holding steady, compared to the week, with areas such as Damsa and Raknah (suburbs of Al Ain) recording temperatures dropping to 6.7°C and 7°C, respectively.”
Raknah is historically one of the coldest spots in the country, with the low-lying suburb recording -1°C back in 2008.
The spokesperson added: “The temperatures should fluctuate a degree or so over the weekend, with Dubai averaging around 18°C, while Abu Dhabi stands at 16°C, while Al Ain holds at 15°C.”
Those heading up to Liwa or Jabal Jais to catch the Geminid meteor shower on Friday and Saturday, when it hits its peak, had better bundle up for late night temperatures holding between 8°C-10°C.
The spokesperson further added: “The foggy conditions will continue to affect the internal areas, especially the western parts of Abu Dhabi, near Liwa and Al Dafna with visibility dropping late night and early morning, until 9am at least in some parts of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.”
The NCMS has also issued a marine warning for Friday for the Arabian Gulf, along with a similar warning for Saturday afternoon in the northern parts of the water body, along with the neighbouring Oman Sea.
