The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will embark on construction of internal roads in different areas of Dubai from next month.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and Executive Director of RTA, chaired the RTA meeting which endorsed awarding a contract for the construction of internal roads in Al Mamzar and Al Nahda 1 costing Dh118 million as part of Phase 3 of the five-year plan (2012-2016).
"The internal roads construction project at Al Mamzar and Al Nahda 1 underscores RTA’s commitment to construct and upgrade the infrastructural works such as roads, lighting, and rainwater drainage system at residential districts, to meet the needs of demographic & urban expansion in the Emirate and make people happier," stated Al Tayer.
"The new project comprises the construction of single and dual carriageways, improvement of the existing roads network in those areas, designating areas for car parks & streamlining the existing ones, and transforming 10 new locations into parallel parking.
“A new traffic sign will be erected at Amman Road to streamline the traffic flow at the entrances & exits of Al Nahda 1 along with directional sign, road markings and suitable traffic signage to ensure the provision of all means of traffic safety for road users. The project also includes the construction of all required directional signage, lighting works for all internal roads in the area, storm water drainage system, sewage drainage system and protecting the existing utility lines.
“The company undertaking the project will start construction works next January and will take about 18 month to complete the project," said Al Tayer.
"The RTA has completed construction of several internal road projects as part of the 5-Year Plan including the construction of roads in nine residential areas stretching 193 km covering Hatta, Al Quoz 2, 3 & 4, Al Qusais 3, Al Khawaneej 1, in addition to Al Barsha 1, 2 & 3," he added.
"The 5-Year Plan (2012- 2016) for constructing internal roads in residential communities in Dubai spans about 16 districts where urbanization rate ranges from 20% to 80% but in some areas it is as low as 5%.
“The initial Phase of the Plan, costing about Dhs150m, covered constructing roads in 5 districts namely: Hatta community, Al Qusais 3, Al Qouz 2, 3 and 4. Phase II, which started in 2013, covered constructing roads in three residential districts namely: Al Muhaisna 2 and Al Barsha South 1 and 2.
“Phase III, which started in 2014, covered constructing roads at Al Mamzar, Al Nahda 1, and Oud Mateena 2. Phase IV, which will be kicked off in 2015, covers the construction of roads in 3 districts namely Nad El Sheba 4, Oud Mateena 1 and Al Khawaneej 2. In Phase V, which will start in 2016, road construction works will be undertaken in 3 districts namely: Jebel Ali Industrial 1, Al Qusais Industrial 3, 4 and 5 in addition to Al Awir 1," said Al Tayer.
