A passenger was recently arrested at Dubai Airport after forged documents, stamps, stickers and entry visas bearing the emblems of a number of EU countries were found in his possession.

Ali Al Maqhawi, Director of Airport Operations at Dubai Customs, said a customs inspector at Terminal 3 became suspicious of an Asian passenger arriving from a European country because he appeared to be anxious and confused.

The passenger was asked to put his bags into the scanning machine which showed unusual objects that required manual inspection.

When the customs inspector opened the bag and inspected it in the passenger's presence, stamps with the European Union emblem were found hidden in pockets of clothes.

At this point, the passenger offered money in foreign currency to the inspector in return for allowing him to pass.

The inspector called the officer in charge of the shift as a witness and to inform him of the attempt to bribe him.

When the passenger was charged with bribery, he repeated his offer in a bid to bribe both the inspector and the officer in charge in return for allowing him to pass.

A number of entry visas to Schengen states and the Republic of Cuba were found in the passenger’s possession, including a passport of a woman UAE resident bearing a Schengen entry visa, all of which were later found to be forged.

The officer in charge and the inspector lodged a police complaint of attempted bribery against the passenger.

Offer and acceptance of bribe is an offence under Article 234 of the Federal Penal Act.
