The UAE has been a steady voice for peace and progress, both regionally and internationally, thanks to the foresight of its founder, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the stewardship of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-President and Prime and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the other Members of the Supreme Council of the Federation and Rulers of the Emirates, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has said.
"On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the Emirati people on your National Day on December 2," Clinton said in remarks on the UAE's 39th National Day.
"The United States and the United Arab Emirates enjoy a strong friendship rooted in our mutual interests and mutual respect. The significant expansion of our commercial relationship over the past decade from $3.2 billion in 2000 to $13.7 billion in 2009 demonstrates the growing ties between our countries. Our cooperation also bolsters international security, advances science and technology, and expands educational opportunities for all our citizens."
"Emiratis have shown leadership in both the public and private sector to promote entrepreneurship, foster economic development, and incorporate renewable energy technologies in unique ways. The sustainable energy design for Masdar City in Abu Dhabi serves as a model of our clean technology future for communities around the world," she indicated.
"I wish the Emirati people a joyful National Day celebration, and reaffirm the commitment of the United States to deepening our partnership with the UAE as we work toward a brighter future together," the US Secretary of State concluded.
