Several residents have been sitting with their legs crossed in discomfort these past 24-hours, as a burst pipe has left the Warsan Tower inhabitants without running water.

Work is continuing on site, with the last notice put up in the Tecom building stating that the water should resume by 6pm.

But several residents are not buying it.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, resident PK said: “It started yesterday, with the water shutting off at 10.30am. When we went downstairs to inquire, we were informed that a water pipe had burst near the  elevators and things should return to normal by 6pm.

“At 6pm, when nothing had happened, we asked the maintenance team yet again; they told us, midnight, for sure.

“This morning, again, there was no water. The signage around the building has been altered to say 6pm today.”

For PK, who hasn’t showered since yesterday, the situation has lost its humour hours ago.

Sharma, who is visiting one of the residents of Warsan Tower, admitted that he hasn’t visited the facilities in the past 24-hours.

“I have stopped drinking water to curb the urge,” he said. “In the evening, we drove to Mall of the Emirates to use the facilities there. We were desperate.

“We’ve heard a few others have gone into the next door Media Rotana hotel to use the facilities there.”

When he went to quiz the workers, he was duly informed that the original problem had been rectified with a new pipe, “but there was a second incident and the replacement also ruptured, from what they told us. So now, a third and more permanent solution is being sorted.”

Dirty dishes have piled up in some homes, while other residents have resorted to lining up with buckets in front of a water tanker that has been made available, which is situated near the lobby.

“It feels like I have been transported back to a village in India,” said Akanksha, another building resident. “I would have never pictured myself standing with a bucket, trying to get water from a communal tap in a building in Dubai.”

Emirates 24|7 made several calls to Al Sharq Facilities Management for an update, but no one answered the phone.

The latest sign now states, water services will be resumed by 6pm.
